interview
I have a lot of work to do but I'm too sleepy and lazy to do any kind of work.

So I'm delaying. Once again.

Because maybe I want to get to know you guys some more.

Or maybe hmmm...

So indulge me and let me get to know you some more.

1. What kind of music do you listen to? Why?
2. What's your number one favorite movie (of all-time)? Just one!
3. What's your favorite city? Why?
4. Where would you like to go to next? Why?
5. What is your favorite quote?
6. Describe your typical day.
7. What is your passion in life?
8. How many kids do you want? Have you named them already?
9. Do you have any addictions? To what?
10. What is your ultimate favorite book? Why?

And of course, I'll start the ball rolling.

1. I listen to anything but heavy metal and rap. But I seem to find myself listening more to musicians that cater to the jazz/easy listening genre. That's how I relax, by listening to singer from this genre, like Jamie Cullum, Stacey Kent and Norah Jones. Some people listen to chill-out music or New Age music to relax, I listen to these people and I feel like a heavy weight was lifted off my shoulders. I also listen to dance and soul music because I love to dance. ;)

2. This is hard because there are so many directors that I look up to. But I think my most favorite movie would have to Todo Sobre Mi Madre written and directed by, one of the greatest writers and directors out there, Pedro Almodovar.

3. I have three favorite cities: Nice in France, Davao in the Philippines and Stratford-upon-Avon in England. All of these cities remind me that life is not about work. It's about enjoying the simple pleasures in life.

4. I would love to go to Prague next and to Spain. I've been fascinated with these places for a long time now. It's discovering a place that I know nothing about. It's going to be fun to explore all the little things that make it what it is.

5. "Be part of the solution, not the problem."

6. I wake up, shower, eat breakfast, go out, go home, have dinner, turn on PC, surf, work, turn off PC, read a book, go to sleep.

7. Writing. That's my passion.

8. Don't laugh but I really, really want 6 kids. I've named two of them: George and Julianna.

9. I am addicted to shopping, coffee, books and videoke.

10. I read a lot and there are so many books that I love to read over and over and over. But I think my most favorite would have to be Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. It's amazing how Lahiri depicted the attempt to isolate, solve and ignore the plight of identity crisis as half-Indian and half-American living in the US. But it could always be the plight of another breed of people, whether it be half-African and half-American or half-Japanese and half-American. It deserves the Pulitzer Prize that it won.

What about you? Tell me more. Tell me more.

polar express and others
Desperate for some form of relaxation, I convinced my sister to watch The Polar Express last Friday afternoon. Good thing we did. It was such a heartwarming movie that I wanted to watch it again right after it ended.

I don't get why other Filipinos are embarrassed to be Filipinos. Some of them think that there's nothing to be proud of as Filipinos. Some Filipinos think Filipinos should get out of their comfort zone to have a true and accurate idea of who Filipinos are. Some Filipinos think we should get of this country if we can.

If that's what they think, then maybe it's better this way. That they're not here. In the Philippines. Let them stay where they are. We don't need them.

news and updates
Did you guys know? He just announced his retirement from the professional basketball. It's so sad to see him go but I don't blame him. He's already achieved so much and there's no other way for him to go now.

***

I got to talk to a friend I met last summer at a workshop we both attended. We lost touch after the workshop and I was glad that we "found" each other again. Anyway, yeah, we talked and he wanted to team up with me and make a film.

YES, YES, YES!

But damn. I'm moving to Tagaytay next month and I couldn't commit.

He said it was okay though and he can wait.

He also said there was a reason behind this "getting together again" thing.

Because for no reason at all, out of the blue, my name comes up in a conversation he was having with mutual friends. Even though all of us haven't seen each other since the summer.

Because a couple of days before this, I was in the mall when I saw this guy who looked like him and immediately got me wondering, "Where is he now?".

He said there was a reason for all this.

I think so, too.

coffee

WARNING! LARGE DOSE OF COFFEE IN THIS POST!

I was in Fully Booked this afternoon and I went to section about different beverages and, of course, I browsed through the books about coffee. Oh goodness! I was in heaven once again!

Too bad I couldn't afford all of it. But there were really good ones. Like this one that has information about brewing and buying coffee and some recipes we could use for "any future store". And another one about the cultural history of coffee from its first conception to the philosophizing in a coffee shop. And another one that lists places to buy fine coffee and where to get a good cup of coffee and what the best espresso machine is.

But since we couldn't buy all of them, my sister and I settled on this book:

The World Encyclopedia of Coffee: The Definitive Guide to Coffee, from Simple Bean to Irresistible Beverage by Mary Banks, Christine McFadden, Catherine Atkinson

The book contains the history of coffee, where in the world the best coffee is, describes the coffee beans from different countries and even has recipes for pastries and coffee drinks. It's a really good book, very informative. It can help us when we conceptualize the products for our future store.

But we're going back and still gonna get the other books. *wink*

amazing race 6
I love watching The Amazing Race but they're putting in way too many "pretty teams". And by pretty teams, I mean models.

That's why I'm glad they're there in the show. Balances things out, don't you think?

the now
When I was a dreamer/idealist/believer, I learned to become practical. When I became practical, I vowed to lead a double life.

But it wasn't as easy as I thought.

Did you guys know that I haven't written anything complete in almost 6 months?!

This coming from someone who wrote something new every week. This coming from someone who couldn't keep up with documenting all the ideas that came to mind every second of the day.

Of course, writing here doesn't count.

I need to become original again. Motivated. Inspired.

I need to be working again. Writing. Inventing. Composing.

I've got so many plans ignored, unattended, shelved.

I need to bring them out again. In the open.

I need to show myself again that I am and will always be a writer.

two days
Since I really don't have anything better to post, I will tell you what happened the past two days, on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday

8:30am - I had breakfast at the Mocha Blends store near our place with my brother and sister, still discussing the stuff we need for our store.
10:30am - My sister and I left for Powerplant to buy some tin cans for the cakes we plan to sell at our store. And, of course, I had to sneak in a visit to Fully Booked where I got three books.
12:30pm - I went to Robinson's Galleria to have lunch and buy new clothes at the Dorothy Perkins.
2:00pm - We went to my aunt's house in QC to deliver the tin cans and talk packaging.
3:30pm - We left to go to the domestic airport in Paranaque to pick up some documents that my dad sent over from Cebu to be delivered to a colleague that same day.
4:30pm - We left for SM Megamall to look at ribbons and beads and gifts for my godchildren. We were ready to leave at 6:30pm but had to wait for my dad's call because we still had to deliver the package we had at hand.
6:45pm - Still no call and my sister, already tired and about to freak out (actually, we both were), called to find no update. My sister decided we will have dinner at Megamall and wait for my dad's call. Bad judgment call, IMO, coz dinner wasn't so great.
7:30pm - We couldn't stand it anymore and we left Megamall for my aunt's house (again) to talk about the ribbons for the packaging and I also got to watch out a few minutes of Y2J's match on Taboo Tuesday.
9:00pm - I called up my dad and learned that we had to go to Roxas Boulevard, at the other side of the city, to deliver the package. We refused to do it. We couldn't do it. So we made plans to meet up the next morning in Makati. And we finally went home!

Tuesday
8:00am - I received a text message from my dad's colleague informing me that she couldn't meet me that day because of an emergency. Okay. Called up my dad so he could take care of it.
9:00am - I left with my brother and my sister to meet several suppliers and finally clinched the deal.
11:00am - We had lunch at home. I wanted to eat out but they wanted to save their money. Can you guess who the big spender is in the family? ;)
12:25pm - We left to attend another training that was to start at 1:00pm and end at 5:00pm. We got there around 12:50pm, started the training at 1:10pm and ended at 3:30pm.
3:30pm - We went to the Mocha Blends store near our place for snacks and talked about business (i.e., the store) as usual.
5:00pm - We went home to rest a bit before my sister and I had to leave again.
6:00pm - We left to go to Metro East so she could meet up with a friend and I could visit a friend. I went back to the Mocha Blends where I had my barista training a couple of months ago. The manager and I hadn't seen each other in months and it was great to talk to her again. We ended up having dinner there and we left a few minutes before closing time.
9:00pm - We dropped by my brother's house because of business purposes (still).
9:45pm - We finally arrived home.

Grabe. No wonder I'm so tired all the time. Not to mention, broke. Too much stuff going on. It's a good thing really that I'm scheduled for a body massage this afternoon. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

my friends, the store and gripes

I love my friends. They're the best thing in my life (besides my family) and I know I will never ever let go of them. They keep me sane. They keep me grounded. They keep me happy. They keep me focused. They keep me going.

These aren't all of them though. These are just my college friends. There's still my high school friends.

***

Speaking of high school, I ran into a high school of mine early this afternoon at G4. I haven't seen her in more than four years. She was one of those people who thought like me and talked like me. And that didn't happen often. Such a shame that we didn't get to keep in touch with each other after high school like we should have. But at least we know where we can contact each other now.

***

They're the cast of one of my favorite shows, Coupling. Real glad Star World has it. Too bad, Richard Coyle, who played one of my favorite characters, left early. Oh well. I still love the show anyway.

wicker park
I caught Wicker Park yesterday mainly because of Josh Hartnett. I'd comment on his performance but I'm afraid I'll be biased. Hehe. The movie wasn't so good due to its underdeveloped plot. Editing was very brave, although I'm not sure if it was very successful. Script was also brave, if not confident, but a bit confusing and boring. Acting was good especially with Aussie actress Rose Byrne. She is a refreshing break, a comfort that there are new and good mainstream actors still. Grabe. How I hated her character. If there's one reason you have to watch this movie, watch it for her. She's so innocent and sad and deceiving all at the same time. I'd cast her in my movie!

tired
The weather is making me cranky. Plus my muscles are giving me a hard time. I'm always getting headaches, my upper back and shoulders feel real tense and I'm always, always craving sleep. I want to rest but I can't. There's still so much stuff to do! Argh.

I'm so tired.

birthday weekend
This is the first birthday that I had a peaceful celebration. And it's all because I had my mobile phone on silent mode. Hay. That was nice. Not even the rains that appeared the whole day dampened my spirits. Only one thing ruined my mood: the service at Di Mark's near our place. It was bad. Bad, bad, bad.

***

Last night was different though. My college friends came over for a dinner, drinking and videoke session. Too bad, two of our friends weren't able to come. No worries. I know they wanted to but couldn't. I just wish I'll be able to see them before I really leave for Tagaytay.

***

We went to my lola's place for lunch earlier because she was celebrating her birthday a day earlier, where numerous food was once again served. Sometimes, no, most of the time, I don't like going to my lola's house coz I seem to gain at least two more pounds because of all the food. Hay.

Peaceful weekend. And I almost forgot about work. Almost being the keyword here because sometimes, you don't know if people are just clueless or pretending to be clueless.

days
I'll be leaving for Tagaytay tomorrow to interview applicants for Mocha Blends. What used to be a place for relaxation is slowly turning to a place of work for me. But not yet.

But I really cannot wait to move to Tagaytay. I need a break from Manila for now.

***

I need new clothes and new shoes. That's why I'm looking for shoes to buy online. So far, I've seen around 3 things that I'd like to buy and they're pretty cheap, which is good.

I'm still looking at local stores but it's hard to find good ones coz everything out there seems to have one thing in common: three-inch stilettos, which I don't wear.

***

I find myself struggling to think for the past couple of months, ever since I started training for MB. Like I told my sister, I tried to read what was on my mind and nothing came on. My mind was completely blank. Whenever ideas come to me, I never have an idea where they come from anymore. I used to have ideas coming to me from anywhere, everywhere. I don't know what happened to me. But this has to stop. I want my old mind back!

In an hour and a half, another year will be added to my life.

No matter what anyone says, birthdays can be so surreal. It's your one special day out of 365 days and you look forward to it everyday but when it comes, it feels like the day that should be but isn't. Do you know what I mean?

Basta!

cd, halloween and live the life
Five days before Halloween, I chanced upon what would eventually be my costume on Halloween. And guess what? The Koreans in front of our place even had their picture taken with me! Success! Haha!

I managed to scare and silence some kids though. Hehe.
