Oscars |
The list of Oscar nominees for this year are out!
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King leads the pack with 11 nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.
Master and Commander: Far Side of the World follows with 10 nominations including Achievement in Cinematography, Costume, Directing, Editing and Sound Editing.
Cold Mountain follows with six nominations including Best Actor in a Leading Role for Jude Law (!) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Renee Zellweger.
Lost in Translation follows with 4 nominations including Best Director and Best Writing (Original Screenplay) for Sofia Coppola.
Best Picture
Nominated are ROTK, Mystic River, Lost in Translation, Master and Commander and Seabiscuit. Personally, I've only watched ROTK and Seabiscuit and between the two of them, I like ROTK more. Of the 5, Lost in Translation is the only movie that has yet to be shown in local cinemas. Master and Commander and Mystic River were shown here last November and December, respectively, but I wasn't able to catch both. Some people say they're both good but I really can't say for sure because I haven't seen them. Does anyone know when they're going to be released on DVD?
Best Directing
Nominated are Katia Lund & Fernando Meirelles for City of God, Peter Jackson for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Sofia Coppola for Lost in Translation, Peter Weir for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Clint Eastwood for Mystic River. Two favorite (for me): Peter Jackson and Sofia Coppola. Although I would prefer if Peter Jackson won this one.
