80s Movies |
Having only lived the first nine years of my life during the 80s, there aren't too many things I really remember.
However, there are three things that I will always equate the 80s with: fashion, movies and music. I'm really really glad that I was still a kid during the 80s. I never really went through that "big hair" phase, the headband, the off-shoulder loose shirt paired with leggings in contrasting and bright colors. I think the only evidence fashion-wise that I lived in the 80s were my hi-top rubber shoes. I can't say the same for my older girl cousins though. Because during the 80s, they were teenagers and they went through that phase. I have pictures of them with big hair, big blouses with shouler pads paired with too-long-to-be-shorts-but-too-short-to-be-pants bottoms. I shudder at the thought.
The music of the 80s is the one that I always go back to. Music from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Culture Club, Bananarama, Bangles, Cyndi Lauper, Spandau Ballet, etc. are some of the music that I still look for every now and then. These are the songs I sing with my friends and dance to (privately) at videoke bars. Songs like Love in the First Degree, True Blue, Bad, Karma Chameleon are just some of the few tunes we sing over and over again.
80s movies are a different issue, though. Movies like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful and St. Elmo's Fire were the movies that spoke of the generation that was the 80s. Few movies now do the same to reflect today's generation.
Sometimes, I think I was born into the wrong generation. And then I remember the fashion of the 80s and I'm glad I wasn't. ;)
